It includes two levels - distance problems from two ordered pairs and from coordinate system graphs. The points are scattered between quadrants 1 - 4. Students would leave the distance in radical form. It's great as sub plan, review lesson, or independent practice!
This activity covers the common core standard:
8.G.B.8: Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.
Both pixel arts are self-checking Google Sheets, themed after fall, autumn, and Thanksgiving/Halloween. The images are versatile, so it can really be used at any time in the school year. Students practice a series of problems, and get immediate feedback as they go. Correct answers turn green and incorrect answers stay red. As students type in correct answers, a mystery picture appears. The Google Sheets are all self checking & digital, so it can easily be assigned through Google Classroom or any online learning platform.
There's no prep required. This is great for virtual or in person learning!
What’s included?
There's 2 pixel art Google Sheets, with 18 problems total, along with an answer key and directions for reference:
Google Sheet #1: 9 distance formula problems - from two ordered pairs (i.e. Find the distance between (4, 5) and (-3, 5)
Google Sheet #2: 9 distance formula problems - from coordinate plane (i.e. Look at this graph and find the distance between the two plotted points).
You can assign the Google Sheets separately or both at once depending on your preferences and skills that your students are working on.
