Unit 9: Probability

ResourcesCurriculum

Overview

Ever wondered how to teach the concept of probability in an engaging way to your 7th-grade students?

In this unit plan, students will first learn about theoretical and experimental probability. Later on, they will build on this knowledge to learn about the probability of simple events. Lastly, they will dive into finding probabilities of compound events, including various types of compound events.

Each lesson helps students master the unit through artistic, interactive guided notes, check for understanding activities, and culminates with a real-life application that explores how probability is used in everyday scenarios.

It's an exciting way to teach probability while comprehensively meeting 7th-grade standards.

Learning Objectives

After this unit, students will be able to:

  • Define theoretical and experimental probability and distinguish between the two.
  • Calculate the probability of simple events.
  • Determine the probabilities of compound events, including independent, dependent, and mutually exclusive events.
  • Use sample space, lists, tree diagrams, and the fundamental counting principle to find probabilities of compound events.
  • Explain how probability concepts can be applied in real-world situations involving uncertainty and decision making.
